Mayuri Kurotsuchi is a recurring character in the anime series Bleach. Mayuri is the captain of the 12th Division in the Gotei 13 and is in charge of the Shinigami Research Institute. Mayuri is considered the most intelligent in the entire Soul Society and can provide a solution to any issue or problem if given a full day with enough information to think it through.

Bleach (ブリーチ) is a manga series authored by Tite Kubo that appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from August 2001 until August 2016. Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the Human characters, but as events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of the Shinigami and their war with the Arrancar, followed by their war with the Quincy.
